Public Service Priorities
Community Development
Local 280 is committed to helping create and sustain affordable housing. This may include, but is not limited to subsidizing the materials for Habitat for Humanity homes. Another goal is to help revitalize low- to moderate-income neighborhoods through organizations providing resources and services to these neighborhoods and populations.
Civic, cultural, and environmental programs that strengthen our communities are vitally important. These programs provide opportunities for community members of all ages to be exposed to these valuable events and programs. Local 280 is dedicated to providing support to organizations that offer these programs.
Health and Human Services
Local 280 is interested in a diverse range of projects and programs to enhance the quality of life in our jurisdiction. We emphasize preventive efforts which address physical and social needs. Programs with a focus on youth are especially valued.
Often those who are the most vulnerable are at risk because of poor health or physical and developmental challenges. We support organizations that provide assistance to children, the elderly, and others who need specialized health care.
Youth and Education
We strive to protect and enrich our children. We support organizations that encourage and directly assist children from infancy through adolescence. Programs may be in the areas of education, after-school activities, sports, mentoring, literacy, and other programs that give our youth inspiration and a helping hand.
